Tucker Carlson Says the US Is Behaving Like an Empire in Venezuela

Debate in the United States continues over the military operation in Venezuela, which most Republican lawmakers and aligned media figures have supported, praising the capture of Nicolás Maduro. Opposition from the anti-interventionist right has been limited and relatively muted.

Conservative commentator Tucker Carlson — one of the most prominent “America First” voices — offered cautious criticism of Donald Trump’s policy, suggesting that Washington appears to be pressuring Interim President Delcy Rodríguez to take pro-US positions to avoid Maduro’s fate.

Carlson wrote that when Trump says the US will “run” Venezuela, it likely means indirect control from afar, using political leverage and the implied threat of further military action rather than day-to-day governance. He concluded that such an approach resembles the behaviour of an empire.
