Tokayev congratulates Putin on Russia’s State Duma elections — Anadolu Agency
Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated by phone the president of the Russian Federation — an aggressor state — Vladimir Putin on the successful holding of elections to the State Duma. The Kremlin reported the conversation between the leaders, Anadolu Agency reports.
According to the Kremlin, Tokayev said that the voting results convincingly demonstrate broad support for the Russian president’s strategic course aimed at protecting the long-term interests of the Russian state.
Talks between the leaders
Putin and Tokayev also discussed bilateral issues and cooperation in the Eurasian region. They separately discussed preparations for a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States, scheduled for early October in Turkmenistan.
The sides confirmed their intention to further develop comprehensive strategic partnership and allied relations between Russia and Kazakhstan.

Preliminary voting results
Three-day voting for 450 seats in the State Duma, the lower house of Russia’s parliament, ended on Sunday. According to Russia’s Central Election Commission, turnout approached 59.32%.
Central Election Commission Chair Ella Pamfilova said that the ruling United Russia party received 57.83% of the vote and is likely to win 355 of the 450 seats. According to her, this should secure the party a constitutional majority. These were the first parliamentary elections in Russia since 2022.
Voting was also held in territories of Ukraine temporarily occupied by Russia. Kyiv rejected the holding of such voting, while some Western governments condemned it.
