Trump Secures IRS's Withdrawal of Claims Against Him and His Sons – Financial Times

U.S. President Donald Trump, who has been involved in a legal battle over the leak of his tax documents, has reportedly secured a settlement with the Internal Revenue Service. This involves the IRS dropping its tax audits of Trump himself and the company run by his sons.

The Financial Times reports on this.

Back in January, Trump filed a $10 million lawsuit against the IRS over the disclosure of tax documents that a former IRS contractor had provided to several media outlets and organizations in 2019–2020.

The Trump Organization stated that the agreement “is intended to ensure real accountability” for the IRS’s “systemic failure,” which led to the “unlawful disclosure” of tax information belonging to Trump, his sons, and 500 entities associated with the company.

However, Trump has now agreed to drop his lawsuit in exchange for the U.S. government establishing a $1.8 billion fund for victims of alleged “violations of the law” resulting from politically motivated investigations.

Additionally, U.S. tax authorities will be barred from bringing claims against the president, his adult sons, and the Trump Organization.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche wrote that the Trumps’ exemption from audits is permanent, but a spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Justice told the FT that the decision to bar the IRS from pursuing claims against Trump applies only to existing tax audits.

As a reminder, the United States suffered significant losses of aircraft and drones during the “Epic Fury” military operation in the Middle East. In total, the Pentagon lost or damaged at least 42 pieces of modern equipment.

The United States has concluded the “Epic Fury” offensive operation against Iran, which began in February. Washington is now transitioning to the “Project Freedom” defensive mission, whose primary goal is to ensure the safe passage of merchant ships through the Strait of Hormuz.

The United States will not allow Iran to block the Strait of Hormuz.

Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron has announced his intention to hold talks with the President of Iran. The French leader has not yet disclosed any details of the upcoming negotiations.
