Trump Identifies Key Topic for Upcoming Summit with Xi Jinping – Bloomberg
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that trade negotiations will be the key issue during his upcoming meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. At the same time, he noted that the situation with Iran will be of secondary importance.
This is reported in a Bloomberg analysis.
“We will be talking with President Xi about many things. I would say, above all, about trade,” Trump told reporters on Tuesday at the White House as he departed for the long-awaited meeting in Beijing.
He also added that, in general, he has many topics to discuss with the Chinese leader.
“To be honest, I wouldn’t say Iran is one of them, because we have Iran completely under control,” Trump added, stressing that either Tehran will strike a deal or Iran will be destroyed.
The publication notes that the U.S. president aims to strike business deals and work out the details of a new trade agreement to manage relations between the world’s two largest economies during his meeting with Xi.
“Both sides are expected to discuss extending the trade truce they reached last fall,” writes Bloomberg.
It is noted that China is the main buyer of Iranian oil, so Beijing has called for the rapid reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, which remains effectively closed as the U.S. blocks Iran’s ports and Tehran restricts the flow of other international shipments.
“The war has triggered a global energy crisis, causing global fuel reserves to dwindle,” the article states.
Bloomberg also notes that Trump is under pressure to end the war, and the U.S. president has previously stated that he would press Xi regarding Beijing’s approach to Iran. But on Tuesday, Trump praised his relationship with Xi.
“My relationship with President Xi is fantastic. We’ve always gotten along well and cooperate very well with China, and cooperation with China has been very good, so we’re looking forward to it,” Trump said.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump, speaking to the press ahead of his visit to China, expressed his conviction that the war unleashed by Russia is in its final stages.
Earlier, on May 7, Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council and head of the Ukrainian negotiating team, arrived in Miami (Florida) for talks with U.S. representatives.
In reality, Russia is not committed to a genuine end to the war with Ukraine. All so-called negotiations, including those mediated by the U.S., are merely a sham on Moscow’s part.
