Trump made harsh remarks about Canada after the talks broke down

He made his statement after trade negotiations between the U.S. and Canada ended without an agreement. In light of this, the United States imposed new 50% tariffs on a range of Canadian goods. Trump claimed that American farmers had allegedly paid significant tariffs for years to gain access to the Canadian market.
“Canada wants to enjoy the benefits of statehood without actually being one! They have also been imposing huge tariffs on our wonderful farmers for many years. This will no longer happen,” the U.S. president wrote. Thus, Trump made it clear that Washington does not plan to return to the previous trade terms without concessions from Canada.
Tensions between the two countries continue to escalate amid the Trump administration’s trade policies. New U.S. tariffs have already created additional strain in relations between Washington and Ottawa, and a breakdown in negotiations could intensify the trade dispute. Trump wrote about this on the social media platform Truth Social.
On October 19, residents of the Canadian province of Alberta will vote on whether the province should remain part of Canada or whether the government should initiate legal proceedings to hold a mandatory referendum on secession. The vote will not be mandatory, according to ABC News Australia.
