Trump ruled out transferring Iranian uranium to Russia or China — CNN
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Washington will not agree to the transfer of highly enriched Iranian uranium to Russia or China. He also emphasized that the U.S. will not consider providing financial assistance to Tehran until Iran fulfills its international obligations.
CNN reports this.
These statements demonstrate a hardening of Washington’s position on two key issues that are central to the current negotiations with Iran. When asked whether it would be acceptable to the U.S. if Moscow or Beijing were to take the nearly weapons-grade uranium stored deep underground, Trump responded negatively, emphasizing that he would feel uncomfortable with that. Earlier this week, the U.S. leader noted that he supports the option of destroying the uranium on-site or at another suitable location, without specifying any concrete details.
At present, Donald Trump shows no intention of easing economic pressure on Iran, although the country is attempting to secure this as part of a future agreement. The president clearly emphasized that there are currently no talks about lifting sanctions or releasing funds. According to him, the U.S. retains control over the funds that Iran considers its own. Washington will allow Tehran to access this money only when the country begins to act correctly and appropriately, but this is not happening at the moment.
