Trump said he is ready to meet with Iran's new supreme leader

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he does not rule out a personal meeting with Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, who has become one of the country’s key figures following the change in leadership.

In an interview with the New York Post, the American leader noted that Mojtaba Khamenei is involved in making the most important state decisions, particularly regarding the possible end of the war and Tehran’s future course.

According to Trump, the new Iranian leader enjoys significant support within the country.

“They respect him very much,” the U.S. president said.

Trump also emphasized that he is open to dialogue with the Iranian leadership.

“I would like to meet with him. We will likely meet at some point, depending on how things unfold,” he said.

At the same time, the U.S. president did not specify whether preparations are currently underway for possible negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

Earlier, Iran launched a missile strike on the Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait, where U.S. military personnel and contractors were stationed. The attack resulted in minor injuries among personnel and damage to U.S. drones. The incident occurred amid U.S. attempts to negotiate an extension of the ceasefire with Tehran.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei is alive and continues to interact with his inner circle, though he does so cautiously and primarily through written messages and intermediaries. Officials in Washington note that his activity has been increasing recently.
