Trump says there has been progress on plans for a US Army base in Poland — The Hill
US President Donald Trump said there has been “significant progress” on plans to establish a US Army base in Poland. In a post on Truth Social, he noted that the location of the facility would be announced soon if the plan is implemented.
Trump called the possible opening of the base a historic step for the US-Polish alliance and praised the leadership of Polish President Karol Nawrocki. As The Hill reports, the Pentagon referred questions about the details to the White House. The White House and the US Embassy in Poland did not provide the outlet with an immediate response.
Talks on military presence
Earlier this month, Polish government and military officials met in Poland with a US delegation led by Will Cappelletti, deputy assistant secretary of defense for Europe and NATO policy. The sides discussed strengthening the US military presence in the country.

In June, Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz said during a meeting with Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth in Brussels that Poland was open to hosting another US military facility. According to Polish broadcaster Polsat News, at the next meeting at the Pentagon, officials plan to discuss potential threats from Russia to NATO’s eastern flank, the security of Central European countries, and the proposed PAC-3 missile service center.
US troops in Poland
Earlier this year, the Pentagon suspended the long-planned deployment of 4,000 US service members to Poland. This raised concerns among lawmakers from both US parties who support a strong NATO alliance.
Usually, around 10,000 US service members are stationed in Poland on a rotational basis. In May, Trump also announced that the United States would send another 5,000 troops to the country. The Pentagon is simultaneously conducting a review of the US military presence in Europe involving NATO allies and Congress; the assessment is planned to be completed in December.
