Trump said he is not concerned about the financial hardships Americans are facing due to the policy toward Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Americans’ financial difficulties do not influence his decisions regarding Iran. According to him, the top priority for the U.S. administration remains preventing Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

This was reported by Reuters.

Before departing for China, Trump once again emphasized that Iran’s nuclear program is the key issue for the White House.

“The only thing that matters when I talk about Iran is that they cannot have nuclear weapons,” the U.S. president said.

Trump emphasized that this is what drives his policy decisions regarding Iran, not the economic problems of U.S. citizens.

“I’m not thinking about the financial situation of Americans. I’m not thinking about anyone. I’m thinking about one thing: we cannot allow Iran to have nuclear weapons. That’s it. That’s the only thing that motivates me,” he stated.

Following the backlash over this statement, White House Communications Director Stephen Chung clarified the administration’s position.

“Iran cannot have nuclear weapons, and if no action is taken, they will acquire them, which threatens all Americans,” Chung explained.

As noted, Washington’s main demand for a potential peace agreement remains Iran’s abandonment of its nuclear program and the transfer of already enriched uranium. At the same time, Iran refuses to completely abandon its nuclear ambitions, which is why negotiations between the parties are ongoing.

In addition, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he plans to hold an extended conversation with Chinese leader Xi Jinping regarding the war with Iran. At the same time, he emphasized that he does not consider it necessary to involve China as a mediator to resolve the conflict.

Earlier, during a press briefing ahead of his visit to China, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed his conviction that the war unleashed by Russia is in its final stages.

Earlier, on May 7, Rustem Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council and head of the Ukrainian negotiating team, arrived in Miami, Florida, for talks with U.S. representatives.

In reality, Russia is not committed to a genuine end to the war with Ukraine. All so-called negotiations, including those mediated by the U.S., are merely a sham on Moscow’s part.
