US President Donald Trump said in an interview with GB News that Britain is “on the brink of disaster.” He expressed concern about high energy costs, net-zero policies and the consequences of mass migration, Cyprus Mail reports, citing Reuters.
Criticism of energy policy
Trump said that he loves Britain and has high regard for King Charles, but believes that the government of Prime Minister Andy Burnham must address serious problems. According to him, the country has significant problems with immigration and energy.
The US president also claimed that the cost of energy in Britain is three to four times higher than it should be. Trump, who calls climate change a hoax, has previously criticized Britain’s move away from fossil fuels and urged its leaders to develop oil and gas fields in the North Sea.

Migration and the North Sea
According to Reuters, Burnham is considering allowing two major projects in the North Sea to proceed. His government promises a pragmatic approach to the energy transition while emphasizing the need to switch to clean sources of electricity.
Trump also said that immigration is changing the face of Britain and called for stopping the arrival of people into the country from different parts of the world. Concerns over illegal arrivals in small boats from continental Europe are an important issue for many British voters and have contributed to the growing popularity of Nigel Farage’s right-wing Reform UK party.
Burnham’s government repeated the promises of its predecessor, Keir Starmer, to stop such crossings. Earlier this week, it said their number had decreased significantly and that efforts to counter boat launches and criminal groups were producing results.
