Trump urges voters to vote at Republican convention in the US
In the US, President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance concluded the Republican Party’s first-ever midterm convention in Dallas. As reported by the South China Morning Post, they urged supporters to vote actively in the congressional elections in November.
Trump asked voters to behave as though he himself were on the ballot. He also said that the US would become greater than ever before. The president delivered a relatively short closing speech.
The two-day event, which Trump supporters called Trump-a-palooza, was dedicated to presenting Republican candidates and highlighting the achievements of the president’s second term. Participants discussed tax cuts, the economy, public safety, border security and healthcare.
Vance’s speech
J.D. Vance delivered the keynote address at the convention. He outlined his vision for the future of the US, spoke about the idea of a national birthright, the importance of the nuclear family, and called the Democratic Party a party of hate.

Vance said that Republicans should first focus on the elections in November and only then think about further steps. During his speech, chants were heard in the hall supporting the vice president’s possible participation in the 2028 presidential election.
Several speakers, including Vance and Donald Trump Jr., mentioned Charlie Kirk on the anniversary of his death. Vance said that Kirk supported Trump but opposed the war, and urged voters not to abandon politics because of individual disagreements.
Payments and China
The convention also heard a proposal to pay every adult American $5,000 as part of the so-called Trump dividends, provided the money is spent in the US. According to the publication’s estimate, with about 270 million adults, such an initiative could cost more than $1 trillion.
The mechanism for the payments, their legality and the need for congressional approval remain unclear. Vance suggested that the funding could be linked to tariff revenue. Trump also said that he expects the president of China to arrive in two weeks and that he gets along well with him.
