President Herzog commemorates 25th anniversary of 9/11 attacks in Israel
Israeli President Isaac Herzog commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States in Jerusalem. He recorded a video address near the 9/11 Living Memorial in the Jerusalem hills, The Jerusalem Post reports.
Herzog said that on the morning of September 11, 2001, the blue sky over New York was replaced by the horrifying sight of the twin towers collapsing. He bowed his head in memory of the thousands of people killed that day in New York, at the Pentagon, and in the fields of Pennsylvania.

The Israeli president also noted the courage and heroism of first responders, emergency services, and New York residents who provided assistance after the attacks. Herzog stressed that Israel understands well the deadly threat of international terrorism.

According to him, there is no justification for attacks on innocent people — Americans, Israelis, or people of any other nationality. Herzog added that Israel will always stand together with the United States, which he called his country’s greatest ally and friend.
Ceremony at the memorial
On the eve of the anniversary, a memorial ceremony was held at the 9/11 Living Memorial with the participation of the U.S. Embassy in Israel, the Jewish National Fund KKL-JNF, and JNF-USA. U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee said that the joint commemoration demonstrates the solidarity of the two countries and their determination to counter terrorism and protect innocent people.
The memorial in Jerusalem is the only place outside the United States where the names of all victims of the September 11 attacks are listed. It is also the only memorial outside the United States that includes a fragment of the twin towers.
