Trump has proposed naming a waterfront area in Washington after himself — Politico
U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed a plan to redevelop the area near the Lincoln Memorial in Washington. Among the proposed changes is the creation of a new promenade, which he suggests naming after himself.
In particular, Trump told reporters that he wants to create a promenade that will allow pedestrians to walk unimpeded from the rear of the monument to the east bank of the Potomac River.
“They want to call it ‘Trump Promenade.’ It’s a wonderful project, and it will connect the Lincoln Memorial directly to the Potomac,” he said.
Several construction projects are already underway around the National Mall in Washington.
During the same meeting, Trump spoke about his project to renovate the Reflecting Pool, located east of the Lincoln Memorial, and his proposal to build a 76-meter-tall triumphal arch, which is to be erected at the memorial interchange near the Arlington Memorial Bridge in Washington.
Trump and Interior Secretary Doug Bjerheim, who is overseeing the renovation, stated that these projects bring to life the vision for the National Mall dating back to the 1902 “McMillan Plan,” which laid the groundwork for the current redevelopment.
The promenade will join a long list of Trump’s construction projects related to Washington’s landmarks during his second term.
As a reminder, last October, Trump announced the start of work on the East Wing of the White House to realize his idea of building a large ballroom there for formal receptions.
