In Sweden, centre-left coalitions appear set to retain power in the country’s three largest municipalities — Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. All three cities had already been governed by centre-left coalitions before the election, The Local Sweden reports.
Results in Stockholm
In Stockholm, as of 9:00, the Social Democratic Party had received 26.3% of the vote, around three percentage points less. At the same time, the Green Party gained around five percentage points and had 11.2%. The centre-right Moderate Party was also showing growth, but the “red-green” majority was expected to remain, according to preliminary data.
Lars Strömgren, a representative of the Green Party and Stockholm’s transport councillor, said his party was holding its most successful election in ten years.

Changes in Gothenburg and Malmö
In Gothenburg, preliminary results showed minor changes. The Green Party rose by 2.3 percentage points to 8.3%, while the Social Democrats could gain around one percentage point and receive 27.6%.
Gothenburg Mayor Jonas Attenius of the Social Democrats said that maintaining this trend would be a success for the city, as it would mean it had not seen the same decline in support as at the national level.
In Malmö, where the city had been governed by a coalition of the Social Democrats, Liberals and the Green Party, the Left Party increased its result by 3.6 percentage points to 17.2%. The Green Party also gained around three percentage points and received 8.6%, while the Sweden Democrats could fall below 12%, according to preliminary estimates.
