CIA releases recruitment video targeting Chinese military personnel
The United States Central Intelligence Agency has published a video in Chinese on its YouTube channel aimed at current and former Chinese military personnel. The video features a fictional mid-ranking officer contacting American intelligence through an anonymous messaging system, claiming that the leadership protects only its own interests and relies on countless lies.

The release of the video risks provoking Beijing amid preparations for US President Donald Trump’s April visit to China. This video appeared just three weeks after a major purge that led to the dismissal of high-ranking Chinese General Zhang Yuxia. Additionally, in May 2025, the CIA released two similar Chinese-language videos exposing corrupt officials.
This move by the CIA highlights growing tensions between the US and China and may lead to further diplomatic strains ahead of upcoming high-level meetings.
