CIA Launches AI for Analytics and Intelligence — Politico

The U.S. Central Intelligence Agency is beginning a large-scale rollout of generative artificial intelligence into its operations.

CIA Deputy Director Michael Ellis stated that the new technologies will be a key element of the revamped cyber intelligence center and will be used for strategic analysis.

Politico reports on this.

For the first time since its creation in 1947, the CIA is beginning to use AI to carry out its “most sacred” mission—assessing the plans and capabilities of foreign states. The agency has already prepared its first autonomous intelligence report and plans to equip all its platforms with specialized “AI staff” over the next few years.

AI will help analysts verify findings, identify hidden trends in large datasets, and prepare draft key decisions for the country’s leadership. Last year, the CIA tested over 300 projects, including rapid data processing, instant language translation, and providing technological tools to officers working undercover “in the field.”

AI will be a key element of the revamped Cyber Intelligence Center, which oversees the agency’s covert hacking operations.

Ellis’s remarks highlighted a serious standoff between the Donald Trump administration and major tech companies. Ellis stated outright that the CIA would not allow private businesses to dictate the terms of technology use. This was a clear jab at Anthropic, which is currently engaged in a legal battle with the Pentagon. The conflict arose after the company attempted to ban the use of its models for mass surveillance and lethal attacks, which drew sharp criticism from Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hagset.

Ellis cited competition with Beijing as the main driver for the rapid adoption of AI. According to him, China has closed the technological gap with the U.S., which was evident as recently as 5–10 years ago. The rapid integration of AI into intelligence is part of the White House’s overall strategy aimed at preserving American superiority and eliminating any political “bias” in the intelligence community’s assessments. At the same time, Ellis emphasized that despite the growing role of algorithms, the right to make final key decisions will remain exclusively with humans.

Protests against the construction of a data center in the U.S. escalated into an armed conflict.

The CIA helped pinpoint Ayatollah Khamenei’s location ahead of U.S. and Israeli airstrikes.

The day before, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran were effective. They may pave the way for a diplomatic settlement.

As a reminder, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed on his social media platform Truth Social the elimination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei following joint U.S.-Israeli strikes.

Recall that several Western agencies reported that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s body was found under the rubble of his residence.

The Israeli military published a list of high-ranking Iranian officials who, according to them, were killed in the airstrikes on February 28.
