Turkey and Canada are preparing for free trade talks
The trade ministers of Turkey and Canada have agreed to launch preliminary consultations, which are intended to be the first step toward concluding a free trade agreement between the two countries. The parties are expected to discuss opportunities for expanding economic cooperation, removing trade barriers, and deepening bilateral trade relations.
Turkish Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat and Canadian Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhhu held a meeting aimed at developing a strong and growing economic partnership between the two countries.
"They agreed to launch exploratory talks on a free trade agreement, a step that reflects both countries’ commitment to fully realizing the potential of their trade partnership," the statement said.
It also notes that the ministers identified energy as a promising area for expanding cooperation and agreed to explore opportunities in renewable energy as well as nuclear energy.

Ultimately, the parties view the energy partnership not only as an economic project but also as a security element in the Black Sea region, where the interests of key players are increasingly intertwined. This was announced by Ukrainian Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal following talks with his Turkish counterpart Alparslan Bayraktar.
In Ukraine, alongside the restoration of the destroyed power grid, a new energy model is being developed that is intended to be more decentralized, resilient, and shock-resistant, and it is being built on the principle of “energy honeycombs,” where responsibility and resources are distributed among the state, regions, communities, and businesses.
