Turkey urges US and Iran to halt attacks in the Gulf
In Baku, Azerbaijan, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan called on the United States and Iran to immediately halt mutual attacks in the Gulf region. According to him, these strikes are harming efforts to achieve peace in the war between the United States and Iran. This was reported by The Jerusalem Post.
Fidan's statement in Baku
Fidan spoke at a joint press conference with his Azerbaijani counterpart. He stated that Turkey values the stability of neighboring Iran and also stressed the need to restore the pre-war status quo in the Strait of Hormuz.
The minister added that freedom of navigation through the strait must be ensured. According to him, Ankara is in contact with all parties involved in order to find a resolution to the situation.

Oil tanker incident
The Turkish minister's statement came amid reports of an incident involving an oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran said the vessel exploded and caught fire after hitting mines. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) disputed this version, saying the tanker was hit by an Iranian missile last month and recently suffered another strike by an Iranian drone.
According to Iran's state-run Fars agency, the vessel was identified as the Panama-flagged El Gaia, after which it was taken to the coast of Oman. The publication also notes that the Iran-backed Houthis are attacking shipping routes in the Red Sea and striking Saudi Arabian cities and facilities.
