Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that the Polish government will seek to influence the Pentagon’s decision regarding the possible withdrawal of U.S. troops from the country.
He made this statement during a government meeting, according to Onet.
Tusk announced that officials from the Polish Ministry of Defense have traveled to the U.S., where they will hold talks with their Pentagon counterparts on this issue.
Also, on May 19 in Brussels, the Chief of the General Staff of Poland, General Wiesław Kukula, will meet with the Commander of U.S. Forces in Europe, General Alex Grinkewich.
The Polish prime minister expressed hope that these meetings will yield concrete results.
"Poland is the most loyal and effective ally. Significant expenditures, major investments—particularly in American equipment—and its geography make Poland responsible for the security not only of its own country but also of many other nations on the European continent. All of this leads me to believe that our meetings and discussions with our American allies will bear fruit,” Tusk said at a cabinet meeting.
He added that all contacts with the American side are currently focused on the issue of the U.S. military contingent on Polish territory.
"Our American allies must understand how important close and highly coordinated cooperation—including the presence of American troops in Poland—is for the security of Poland, Europe, the United States, and the global order," the Polish prime minister added.
