Britain Appoints Its First Minister for Artificial Intelligence — Bloomberg

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has appointed Kanishka Narayan as the minister responsible for artificial intelligence. For the first time in the country’s history, this position has been elevated to that of a full member of the Cabinet.

Narayan, a politician from Wales representing the Labour Party, was appointed Junior Minister for Artificial Intelligence and Online Safety in September 2025 under Burnham’s predecessor, Keir Starmer.

In that role, he worked under Technology Minister Liz Kendall, whom Burnam removed on Monday.

The United Kingdom is not the first G7 country to appoint a high-level minister for artificial intelligence: France and Canada have created similar positions over the past two years.

Burnam has said little about his strategy regarding AI and technology. He and Narayan will have to take a stance in the debate over technological sovereignty in Europe.

This was reported by Bloomberg.

The United Kingdom has officially changed prime ministers.
