In Chicago, more than 90,000 rubber ducks were released down the river for charity
The annual Ducky Derby charity event took place in Chicago on August 6. During the race, more than 90,000 rubber ducks were dropped from a truck onto the Chicago River from the Columbus Drive Bridge. Spectators watched the start of the event, according to Euronews.
After being released, the ducks floated downstream. Event staff identified the winning duck, and all the others were retrieved from the water with fishing nets.
The Ducky Derby raises funds for Special Olympics Illinois. This organization hosts sports competitions in Illinois for people with intellectual disabilities.

Participants could sponsor a single rubber duck or a group of six ducks. The funds raised will be used to provide athletes with meals and medals. As of the time of publication, the total raised had exceeded $480,000.
