Modern slavery concerns arise in Dubai over foreign workers’ conditions

Bloggers claim that Dubai harbours a form of modern slavery, where foreign workers from India, Bangladesh, Gambia, Kenya, and Somalia face exploitation, including passport confiscation and restrictions on leaving the country.

It is noted that the city’s entertainment revolves around wealthy individuals uninterested in culture or nature, focusing instead on prostitution, yachts, restaurants, and luxury cars. Consequently, stranded businessmen in Dubai are mainly entertained by escort services, with representatives of the industry reporting a fivefold increase in demand for such services.

This situation highlights a serious social issue in one of the world’s most prestigious cities, potentially prompting increased international scrutiny concerning workers’ rights and conditions.
