Yemeni government forces report drone strikes on Houthis

Yemeni government forces said they carried out drone strikes on positions of the Houthi group in the southwestern province of Al-Dhale. This was reported by Anadolu Agency.

The Nation Shield Forces group said it used drones for strikes it described as precise. It did not specify the exact location of the attacks in Al-Dhale province.

The Nation Shield Forces also released a video which, according to its data, shows an airstrike on a gathering of several dozen members of the Houthi movement. Houthi representatives did not immediately comment on the statement.

Fighting on several fronts

In recent days, the situation regarding control over Yemen’s territories has been changing amid an escalation of the confrontation between government forces and the Houthis, which has continued since early July after years of relative calm.

The Houthis say they control the entire western province of Al-Hudaydah. According to them, this happened after advances in the west of Taiz province and the capture of the coastal city of Mocha and its Red Sea port. Their advance has also moved closer to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

At the same time, government forces, according to the agency, have made gains in the northern province of Al-Jawf near the border with Saudi Arabia and have moved closer to its administrative center, Al-Hazm. Clashes are also continuing in the provinces of Marib, Al-Bayda and Al-Dhale.

The conflict in Yemen has continued since September 2014, when the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, and several provinces. In March 2015, a coalition of Arab states led by Saudi Arabia intervened in support of Yemen’s internationally recognized government.
