"European Truth" called on the EU to respond to attacks on Ukrainians in Poland
Anatoliy Martsynovskyi, editor of “European Truth,” called on the European Union in a column to respond to incidents of xenophobia and attacks on Ukrainians in Poland. In his view, the Polish government is not doing enough to counter anti-Ukrainian radicalization.
As an example, the author cited the latest attack in Wrocław, where, according to “European Truth,” three Poles attacked a young man and woman because of their Ukrainian accents. Marcinowski noted that while the police sometimes quickly apprehend the attackers, the number of convictions and the severity of the punishments, in his view, do not match the scale of the growing problem.
The columnist believes that both political actions and the state’s inadequate response have contributed to the rise in anti-Ukrainian sentiment in Poland. He named Polish President Karol Nawrocki as one of the “founding fathers” of the problem, linking this to the campaign surrounding President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s decision to name a military unit after UPA heroes.

At the same time, Martsynovsky emphasized that anti-Ukrainian sentiment began to rise significantly as early as 2023, when the blockade of the Ukrainian border began. He criticized the reaction of Donald Tusk’s government to the stopping of Ukrainian trucks carrying grain and the dumping of Ukrainian grain from railcars.
The author also referred to Article 3 of the Treaty on the European Union and the EU directive regulating temporary protection and the stay of Ukrainians in Poland. The document states: “Member States shall apply temporary protection with due respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms….” According to Marcinowski, the situation requires a response from the European Commission, and the European Parliament could also express its position.
