France is waiting for Hungary to lift its veto on aid to Ukraine — RFI
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated that following Viktor Orbán’s political defeat, Hungary should no longer block decisions regarding support for Ukraine.
According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin has lost his “Trojan horse” in the European Union and called on the potential successor to Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar to lift Budapest’s veto on aid to Ukraine.
He made these remarks on Tuesday during an interview on RFI.
“This is a defeat for Viktor Orbán, as well as a defeat for a number of his supporters in the reactionary international community, first and foremost for Vladimir Putin, who has lost his Trojan horse in the European Union,” Barro noted.
The minister added that the policy Orbán had pursued toward Ukraine had hindered it, so he is glad to see that these “obstacles have now been removed.”
France also expects election winner Péter Magyar to do what he has already promised, namely “to restore the pillars of the rule of law that Viktor Orbán destroyed, return Hungary to its rightful place among European nations, and lift the series of vetoes imposed without any justification.” He clarified that this primarily concerns a €90 billion loan to Ukraine.
