In France, trains are running 11 hours late due to a malfunction
In southwestern France, a power line malfunction caused serious disruptions to train service to Paris. Some high-speed TGV trains were delayed by 10–11 hours. The railway operator stated that repairs are already underway and that normal service is expected to resume in the afternoon of August 21.
The train service disruptions began on the evening of August 20. The cause was a malfunction in the railway line’s power supply system near Bordeaux. This disrupted train service from southwestern France to Paris. Delays for some trains reached 10–11 hours.
One of the most severely delayed trains was the TGV 8544 high-speed train from Anday, a town near the French-Spanish border. It departed on August 20 at 4:00 p.m., but did not arrive in Paris until 8:30 a.m. the following morning. The train made a lengthy stop in the Bordeaux area, where it remained until 2:00 a.m. After that, the train continued on an alternate track that is not designed for high-speed trains.
As a result, the trip to the capital took significantly longer than usual. A similar situation occurred with another train. The train from Tarbes to Paris departed at 4:32 p.m. and also arrived several hours late.
When service is expected to resume
The operating company reported that specialists are already working to resolve the issue. Railway workers are carrying out the necessary repairs to restore service to its normal schedule. The situation is expected to stabilize in the afternoon of August 21. While repairs are underway, passengers are being warned of possible delays and changes in train schedules on this route.
