Two firefighters died in France while battling a fire near the airport in Mérignac. French President Emmanuel Macron also responded to the tragedy. He expressed his support for the families of the victims and all firefighters in the country. “I extend the nation’s condolences, gratitude, and support to their families, loved ones, and the firefighters of France,” Macron wrote.
The fire, in which the firefighters lost their lives, also disrupted operations at the nearby Bordeaux Airport. This is the third fatality among French firefighters in July. Earlier this month, another firefighter died while battling a fire in the Alpine foothills. He was struck by a rockfall while working at the scene of the fire.
