In Ghana, 346 Navy recruits complete 26 weeks of training — MyJoyOnline

In Nutekpor in Ghana’s Volta Region, 346 Ghana Navy recruits have completed 26 weeks of military and basic naval training. A ceremonial parade marking the graduation of the 85th basic training intake took place on September 25 at the Navy Training Command parade ground.

This was reported by MyJoyOnline. The programme combined theoretical classes, practical exercises and military training to prepare the recruits for service in the Ghana Navy.

Call for professionalism

Volta Regional Minister James Gunu congratulated the graduates on completing physical, academic and character training. According to him, joining the Ghana Armed Forces means not only changing one’s uniform, but also assuming greater responsibility and earning the trust of Ghanaian society.

Gunu urged the recruits to act honestly, professionally and patriotically, maintain discipline and respect human rights. He also stressed the need to remain vigilant against armed robbery, cybercrime, illicit drug trafficking, psychoactive substance abuse and threats to public order. The official warned them against extortion, brutality and other unprofessional conduct.

The minister thanked the commander and instructors for their work and said the government intends to provide the Armed Forces with resources and equipment for training and operations.

Awards for graduates

The reviewing officer, retired Commodore Godson Kwabla Zovonoo, urged the graduates to uphold the values of commitment, courage, integrity, discipline, professionalism, teamwork and selfless service. He noted that the graduation ceremony marks the beginning of further training and professional development.

Asafo-Agyei Audrey Kantanka was named the best female recruit of the course. Alimenu Hamza received an award for the best drill performance, Amadi Blankson De-young Jnr for the best academic results, and Sadiq Huseifa received the commander’s special award.

Those present at the ceremony included South Tongu District Chief Executive Victoria Dzeklo, former Chief of Naval Staff retired Rear Admiral Geoffrey Mawuli Biekro, senior officers, instructors, petty officers, as well as the graduates’ families and friends.
