Man in Ghana sentenced to 15 years for sexual abuse of schoolgirl
A district court in the city of Tarkwa, Ghana, sentenced 20-year-old Kelvin Oppong to 15 years in prison for sexually abusing a 14-year-old schoolgirl. The man pleaded guilty to a charge of an offense against a minor, MyJoyOnline reports.
Court verdict
Oppong lives in Nsuaem in Ghana’s Western Region. The case was heard by Judge Bernice Mensima Akon. According to the prosecution, the victim had completed junior high school and was awaiting her exam results to enter senior high school.
On May 26, 2026, the girl’s stepmother sent her to sell sausages and tripe in Nsuaem to raise money for her education. At around 11:00, Oppong approached the schoolgirl allegedly to buy goods and showed her a 100 Ghanaian cedi banknote. The girl did not have change, after which the man lured her to his house, claiming that he would give her money.
Case circumstances
As prosecutor Samuel Ahiabor said, at the house, Oppong pretended to be a pastor and told the girl that he had allegedly had a bad dream about her. According to the prosecution, he prayed for her and gave her a mixture to drink, after which she fell asleep.

The prosecution stated that the man took advantage of her condition and forcibly had sexual intercourse with her on the veranda of his house. After regaining consciousness, the girl told her stepmother what had happened.
Nsuaem police issued a medical form for the victim’s examination and treatment. She was taken to Nsuaem Government Hospital, where she received medical assistance. According to the prosecution, the medical report confirmed the offense against a minor.
The next day, the girl’s stepmother, with the help of local residents, spotted Oppong in Nsuaem, detained him and handed him over to the police. After an investigation, the man was charged, and he pleaded guilty in court.
