In Ghana, NAGRAT calls for audit of student enrolment data — MyJoyOnline

In Ghana, Jacob Anaba, president of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), called for an immediate audit of student enrolment data used to allocate resources under the National School Feeding Programme. This was reported by MyJoyOnline.

Concerns over student data

The call followed a statement by the programme's national coordinator, Hajia Fati Forgor. She expressed concern that some school heads allegedly inflate enrolment figures in order to receive larger amounts of resources. According to her, this may result in schools that genuinely need support not receiving sufficient assistance.

Anaba said these allegations must be thoroughly investigated to determine the scale of possible manipulation and identify those involved. He called the possible inflation of figures a serious abuse of responsibility that harms the state and undermines the purpose of the programme.

Audit and food quality

The NAGRAT head stressed that the audit must establish the actual number of students in schools participating in the programme. In his view, accurate data are needed for the fair distribution of resources and to ensure they reach the students for whom they are intended.

Anaba also called for greater attention to the nutritional quality of school meals. He noted that meals must contain sufficient nutrients to support children's health, concentration and learning.

According to the NAGRAT president, the school feeding programme is important for students' participation in education, so it should be implemented transparently and effectively.
