Trump calls China’s assistance to Iran unacceptable — ABC News Australia

In Washington, United States, President Donald Trump raised the issue of the war in Iran and China’s support for Tehran during the three-day state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping. US Ambassador to China David Perdue said Trump stressed to the Chinese leader that any assistance to Iran was unacceptable, ABC News reports.

Washington’s position

Perdue told CNBC that the US side had made it clear to Beijing several weeks earlier that both direct and indirect assistance to Iran was unacceptable. This included, in particular, the transfer of intelligence, components, or military equipment. According to him, Trump reiterated this position during talks with Xi.

Beijing denies US accusations of assisting the Iranian leadership during the conflict. Trump confirmed to journalists that the two leaders discussed Iran. Answering a question about possible progress in opening the Strait of Hormuz, the US president said he considered the prospects good.

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said details of limited agreements in trade negotiations with China are planned to be released on Monday. According to him, the sides agreed on exemptions for certain key goods in trade disputes, including agricultural products and medical devices supplied to China, as well as imports of consumer and non-sensitive goods.
