Ghana begins distributing aid to Hohoe flood victims — MyJoyOnline

Ghana’s National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has begun distributing food and essential items to residents of Hohoe in the Volta Region affected by flooding. The organisation has already provided initial assistance to those affected and continues to assess their needs, MyJoyOnline reports.

First aid deliveries

Pascal Agbagba, NADMO’s Volta Regional Director, said the first batches of aid included mattresses, food, mosquito nets, mosquito repellents and oil.

According to him, this is a temporary measure while the organisation’s national office mobilises additional supplies. Agbagba said NADMO had assured those affected that new batches of aid would arrive. The organisation currently aims to ensure that every affected house receives at least some assistance.

Scale of flood impact

According to NADMO, more than 4,000 households in approximately 400 houses have been identified in the affected communities. Once additional supplies are received, aid will be distributed taking into account the number of affected households.
