Star Oil raises petrol and diesel prices in Ghana
In Ghana, Star Oil raised retail fuel prices in the second pricing window of September. The price of petrol increased from 15.17 to 16.77 Ghanaian cedis per litre, while diesel rose from 16.97 to 17.77 cedis per litre. The new prices took effect on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, MyJoyOnline reports.
Reasons for the price revision
Star Oil explained the adjustment by rising international prices for petroleum products and a slight weakening of the Ghanaian cedi. The Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies, COMAC, also linked the increase to higher prices for crude oil and petroleum products on the international market and pressure on the national currency.
According to COMAC, from August 27 to September 11, 2026, the cedi depreciated by 1.01%, to 11.4849 cedis per US dollar at average bank exchange rates. The chamber said that interventions by the Bank of Ghana eased pressure on the foreign exchange market, curbed speculative transactions and reduced the cedi's depreciation since the start of the year. COMAC also noted that without a state subsidy of 2 cedis for diesel, its prices could have been higher.

New price floors
Ghana's National Petroleum Authority (NPA) raised price floors for the second period of September. The petrol price floor increased from 14.53 to 16 cedis per litre, while the diesel price floor rose from 15.60 to 16.77 cedis per litre. The price floor for liquefied gas was set at 10.97 cedis per kilogram.
From September 16, companies must not sell petrol for less than 16 cedis or diesel for less than 16.77 cedis per litre. More than 200 petroleum product marketing companies operate in the country. Some of them may raise prices immediately, while others are monitoring competition before making a decision. GOIL said it is assessing the market situation and various scenarios before a possible adjustment of fuel prices.
