Ghana sets up committee to update infrastructure plan — MyJoyOnline
Ghana’s National Development Planning Commission has established a technical committee to review, update and finalize the Ghana Infrastructure Plan. The committee’s work is intended to strengthen the planning, financing and implementation of infrastructure projects in the country, MyJoyOnline reports.
Four months to review the plan
The committee is to complete its task within four months. Its members will compare the current Ghana Infrastructure Plan with up-to-date sectoral plans, policies, regulations, master plans and investment programmes.
The committee must also update the plan’s indicators and results framework and integrate the National Spatial Development Framework. This is intended to align infrastructure development with the country’s broader spatial and development priorities.
Financing and key sectors
The chair of the National Development Planning Commission, Dr Nii Moi Thompson, said the updated plan should help Ghana move away from an inconsistent approach to national development. According to him, the country needs a more consistent, predictable and transparent approach.

Thompson also noted that the plan should set clear benchmarks for infrastructure development and provide for a governance framework that will ensure efficient, transparent and effective procurement and implementation of infrastructure projects.
According to the commission’s Director-General, Dr Audrey Smock Amoah, the committee will consult stakeholders, update infrastructure indicators and milestones, and propose implementation mechanisms at the national and district levels.
The committee’s tasks include identifying financing options, including infrastructure bonds, public revenue and public-private partnerships. The main focus is planned to be on energy, water supply, transport and digital infrastructure.
