Ghana opens applications for promotion of non-teaching staff

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has opened applications from non-teaching employees seeking promotion to higher job grades. Documents can be submitted from September 14 to 28, 2026, MyJoyOnline reports.

The procedure covers staff in accounting, internal audit, administration, catering, technical, library, supply, laboratory and secretarial services, as well as drivers.

Positions candidates may apply for include Chief Accountant II, Deputy Chief Accountant I and II, Principal Accountant, Chief Internal Auditor II, Principal Internal Auditor, Chief Administrative Officer II and Principal Administrative Officer. Also available are the positions of Chief Catering Cashier, Chief Technical Officer, Chief Librarian, Chief Supply Officer, Chief Laboratory Technician, Principal Personal Secretary, Chief Driver and Principal Driver.

Requirements for candidates

Candidates must have been promoted to one of the specified grades no later than 2022 and have worked continuously in the position since then. Periods of approved absence are an exception. GES also requires a very satisfactory work record and appropriate conduct while serving in the service.

Conditions for master's and doctoral degree holders

Separate conditions apply to employees who wish to use a master's degree or Doctor of Philosophy degree for out-of-turn participation in interviews. The postgraduate programme must have been completed in a GES-approved course of study, and the qualification must not have been obtained before the employee's previous promotion.

Candidates applying on the basis of a master's or doctoral diploma must have obtained it no later than 2023. Applications are accepted online. Applicants must upload a recent passport-size photograph and only the latest letter of promotion, change of grade or appointment to their current position, depending on the circumstances. Documents other than the photograph must be submitted in PDF format.
