Regional journalism award launched in Ghana
The Ashanti regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association has launched the Ashanti Media Excellence Awards in Kumasi, which will recognize the professional achievements of media workers across various journalism fields. MyJoyOnline reports on the launch of the award.
Award theme and professional standards
Kofi Adu Domfe, chairman of the GJA regional branch, stressed that the organization’s leadership intends to act transparently, accountably and collectively, paying attention to the interests of journalists in the region. According to him, the Ashanti media community has sufficient potential for independent development.
The theme of this year’s award is “Celebrating Excellence, Building Trust: Journalism in the Age of AI.” Adu Domfe stated that amid the development of artificial intelligence, deepfakes, disinformation and misinformation, journalists must maintain professional standards, including fact-checking and adherence to accuracy, fairness and balance.

Nominations and evaluation of entries
During the presentation, the organizers introduced new planning and application review committees, a list of categories and updated rules for submitting materials. Isaac Justice Bediako, chairman of the awards committee, explained that all entries must meet the review criteria.
The categories include sports, health, education and agricultural journalism, arts and tourism, documentary projects, feature stories, science, the environment and climate change. Nominations are already open, and entries will be assessed by a five-member jury. The award ceremony is scheduled for the first week of October.
