Police station built in Maakro, Ghana
The Suame Municipal Assembly in Ghana’s Ashanti Region has built and handed over a modern police station in Maakro to the Ghana Police Service. The facility is intended to strengthen security and improve residents’ access to justice and security services, MyJoyOnline reports.
The construction was financed through the District Assemblies Common Fund. The project was implemented under the leadership of Municipal Chief Executive Frank Owusu Ansah and was included among projects the assembly describes as part of its work’s legacy.
Station facilities
The building includes a charge office, offices for the station officer and the Criminal Investigations Department, separate cells for men and women, an armoury and an evidence room. It also has offices for the operational task force and motorcycle unit, a conference hall and sanitary facilities.

During the commissioning ceremony and handover of the facility to the police, Owusu Ansah said that residents’ security is one of the assembly’s priorities. According to him, a safer environment should promote business activity and generate funds for implementing the municipality’s development plans.
Cooperation with the community
Ashanti Regional Deputy Police Commander Francis Kwame Somian, who represented Regional Commander Osei Akoto Arthur, urged residents, particularly young people, to cooperate with police officers assigned to the station. He noted that interaction between the community and law enforcement is necessary for the effective performance of their duties and for maintaining peace and security.
Somian thanked the municipal assembly and traditional authorities for their cooperation in establishing the facility and assured that the Ghana Police Service would maintain it regularly. Owusu Ansah also thanked local chiefs and traditional authorities for providing land for construction. In addition, he promised to include the construction of an AstroTurf football pitch in Maakro in the development plans for 2026. Among other projects in the municipality, he mentioned a classroom block in Kwabre and CHPS medical compounds in Nkwantwimi and Aboahia-Kyereaso.
