Islamic schools in Canada receive threats of violence — Anadolu Agency

Canadian police are investigating threatening emails sent to Islamic schools in several provinces across the country. An unidentified author threatened violence against Muslims, Anadolu Agency reports.

Emails sent to schools in several provinces

According to the Toronto Star, nine private schools overseen by the Muslim Association of Canada received the messages in the Toronto area. Similar emails were also sent to educational institutions in other parts of Ontario, British Columbia and Quebec.

According to the Canadian Press, the author of the email signed it as Citizen Vigilante and threatened to kill Muslims, stating an intention to make Canada free of Islam. The message also mentioned the separatist movement in Alberta. The author said that if the province secedes, Muslims would be deported or killed.

Police increase presence

Police in the Toronto area said in a post on social media platform X that they increased their presence near mosques and schools overnight. The Ottawa Police Service also said it had increased its presence near religious and educational institutions.

Ottawa officials said they currently have no information about a specific or imminent threat to the city’s religious or educational institutions. Muslim Association of Canada representative Nabil Sultan told CBC News that the organization had previously encountered hateful comments on social media, but not on such a scale.
