Protest held in Karachi after 17-year-old killed during home attack
In the Manghopir area of Karachi, Pakistan, following the death of 17-year-old Roshan Hussain during an attack on his home on Tuesday morning, the victim’s relatives and local residents held a protest outside a police station. The protesters brought the young man’s coffin and demanded an end to rising crime in the area, Dawn reports.
The family and area residents said they would not hold funeral rites until the attackers were detained.
Details of the attack
The victim’s father, Roidad Hussain, told journalists that at around 4:00 a.m., six masked people broke into their home. According to him, two of them were wearing police uniforms, and he took out his licensed pistol after the strangers appeared.
According to the father, when his son came out of his room, the armed men in uniform opened fire. Roshan Hussain was shot in the chest and died at the scene. Roidad Hussain explained that he did not fire because he feared that the attackers might indeed have been police officers.

The father also said that he later learned that the same people had robbed four nearby houses. According to him, his son had recently successfully passed an examination after finishing school.
Residents’ demands
Manghopir residents said they had submitted requests to the police three times asking for increased patrols. At the same time, according to them, area police did not patrol the locality at night.
The protesters also announced their intention to hold similar actions outside the Karachi Press Club and the residence of Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari in the Clifton area. The victim’s body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for forensic procedures.
