A fire broke out in a school dormitory in Kenya; there are fatalities
A fire broke out at a girls' school dormitory in Kenya on the night of May 28, killing at least 15 students.
This was reported by local law enforcement, according to Reuters.
The fire occurred at Utumishi Girls’ Academy, a high school for girls. According to police, there are also injured, but the exact number is currently being determined.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
Law enforcement officials reported that about 50 police officers are involved in the search for students who may have left the building during the fire.
According to a police spokesperson, panic broke out in the building during the incident.
“Due to shock, fear, and anxiety, many people ran out into the street, and this happened at night,” said Senior Police Commander Masud Mwinyi.
Earlier, on the Japanese island of Miyajima, a fire destroyed the Reikado Shrine, where an “eternal flame” had burned continuously for over 1,200 years.
In Zaporizhzhia, a Russian drone attack damaged private homes and an industrial facility, and destruction and a fire were reported in the city. No information on casualties has been received yet, but the consequences of the strike are still being assessed.
