In Russia, there has been a proposal to rename hamburgers "kotletniki"

In Russia, there have been renewed calls to combat Anglicisms in the food industry, according to reports in Russian propaganda media.

Sergey Malinkovich, head of the “Communists of Russia” party, proposed that in a year’s time, the word “hamburger” be phased out and replaced with Russian equivalents—such as “kotletnik.” He stated that Anglicisms in the food service industry must be banned by law and replaced with Russian names.

“There was already a period in our country’s history when we fought against foreign influence, and the French baguette was renamed the ‘city loaf.’ We don’t need American fast-food culture—that slapdash stuff. We can think of new names.

For example, we could call a hamburger a ‘kotletnik,’ a ‘kokoshnik’ in honor of our traditional headdress, or a ‘Leningrad sandwich.’ Of course, people won’t change their habits instantly, but gradually the new name will catch on. To restructure the business, we need to set a legal deadline—for example, one year,” Malinkovich said.
