In Chisinau, a woman was defrauded of more than 130,000 euros by fake psychics

In Chisinau, a 74-year-old woman fell victim to scammers who posed as “psychics” and, under the pretext of fictitious “protection rituals,” forced her to hand over and transfer more than 130,000 euros. The police are already investigating the case and searching for all those involved.

A story unfolded in the Moldovan capital that sounds almost unbelievable but resulted in the real loss of a huge sum of money, when a 74-year-old pensioner believed people who called themselves “psychics” and gradually handed over all her savings to them under the pretext of protecting her son from a non-existent danger.

Local police reported the incident, noting that the scheme was well-planned and had been ongoing for some time. According to the investigation, the scammers contacted the woman via WhatsApp and communicated in Russian, creating a sense of trust and an alleged “mystical connection,” after which they began convincing her that danger was looming over her family and could only be averted through special “protective rituals.”

The story then took an even more absurd turn: the woman was told that her money was “charged with negative energy” and needed to be “cleansed,” after which she transferred 96,000 euros in cash to an unknown person. Once trust had been fully established, the scammers concocted a new story claiming that the money was supposedly “stuck at customs” and began demanding additional transfers via international payment systems, effectively forcing the woman to continue handing over funds.

In total, as law enforcement officials determined, the pensioner lost over 130,000 euros, part of which was transferred to individuals in Ukraine and Armenia, while another portion she handed over personally to unknown individuals during meetings.

Moldovan police reported that they have already launched an investigation and are working to identify all participants in the fraudulent scheme, which combined psychological pressure, fabricated “mystical” stories, and classic money-extraction tactics. This was reported by Newsmaker.
