In the Chinese province of Sichuan, a wall collapse claimed the lives of five people
In a village in Channing County in the southwestern Chinese province of Sichuan, five people were killed and 17 others were injured when a wall collapsed, according to the local emergency management office.
The accident occurred on August 18 at around 5:30 p.m. According to the agency, a resident was hosting a banquet in one of the village courtyards.
The investigation found that an excessive amount of water had accumulated on a temporary rain shelter. According to the agency, this caused the wall to which the shelter was attached to collapse.

Three people died at the scene. Two other victims later died from their injuries, despite medical intervention.
All 17 injured individuals remained hospitalized, the Emergency Situations Department noted. The agency provided details on the causes of the accident based on the findings of the investigation.
