China commissions 50,000-tonne smart tanker — ECNS
On September 29, Zhihui Yunfan, the country’s first 50,000-tonne-deadweight MR-class petroleum products tanker with “smart ship” and cybersecurity certificates, was commissioned in the Chinese city of Dalian. ECNS reports.
Vessel specifications
The 182.9-metre tanker was built by Dalian COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry for COSCO Shipping Energy Transportation. The vessel is intended to operate on domestic and international routes.
Zhihui Yunfan can transport crude oil, aviation kerosene and other petroleum products. The vessel can simultaneously load and unload three types of oil.

Systems and certification
The tanker is equipped with transportation planning, remote monitoring and predictive maintenance systems. It also meets the International Association of Classification Societies’ requirements for vessel cybersecurity and has received certification from the China Classification Society.
According to the publication, the vessel’s nitrogen oxide emissions comply with IMO Tier III standards. The tanker also supports the use of biofuel for future fuel upgrades.
