The Kremlin has accused the West of waging an information war on social media
The Kremlin claims that a significant portion of critical comments about the Russian government on the internet are not a natural reaction from users, but are instead created and disseminated by “external forces.”
This was stated by Alexander Kharichev, head of the Russian President’s Office for Monitoring and Analysis of Social Processes, citing Russian media.
He noted that, according to Russian estimates, approximately half of the negative content on social media may show signs of organized and directed influence from abroad.
According to him, this involves elements of the so-called “information and psychological warfare,” which, as the Kremlin claims, is aimed at undermining trust in the government and influencing public sentiment within the country.
Kharichev also stated that such information campaigns are allegedly part of a broader strategy to pressure Russia ahead of political events, particularly the State Duma elections. He added that “hostile” information influence is carried out through various channels—from social media and media publications to video content and targeted mailings.
At the same time, the representative of the Russian President’s administration emphasized that, in his opinion, this situation also has a “positive effect,” as it allegedly forces Russian society to develop “immunity to propaganda.”

As a reminder, major advertisers began refusing to place ads on the Telegram messenger following statements made during a meeting in the Kremlin regarding the possible blocking of the service.
