84 vehicles impounded in Lagos traffic crackdown — Premium Times Nigeria

In Lagos, Nigeria, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) impounded 84 commercial and private vehicles during a crackdown on traffic violations. The operation took place in Idumota, Iddo, Ijora-Olopa, Costain and Onipanu.

As Premium Times Nigeria reports, one of the main violations was the dangerous reversing of commercial buses against traffic on a one-way section between Iddo and Idumota via the Carter Bridge.

Risk of collisions on the bridge

LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki said that drivers and pedestrians may not have enough time to notice a bus illegally reversing in the opposite direction. According to him, this practice creates a risk of collisions, injuries and fatalities.

Attacks on employees

LASTMA also said that some employees were attacked during the operation and official vehicles were damaged. According to Bakare-Oki, people suspected of attacking employees and damaging vehicles were detained.

The official warned transport operators against using spaces under bridges, roadside areas and other unauthorized locations as garages, as this may obstruct traffic. The agency urged drivers to comply with the rules, not drive against traffic, not perform dangerous reversing maneuvers, not park illegally and not engage in indiscriminate loading.
