A concert by American rapper Xzibit, scheduled for September 19 at a local club in the Latvian capital, has been canceled. The reason was reports that the artist had continued to perform in Russia after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Journalists contacted the management of the Coyote Fly club with a request regarding the artist’s upcoming performance.
After an investigation, it was found that the rapper had not ceased his concert activities in Russia after February 2022, but had in fact held three concerts there just last year.
Upon receiving this information, the relevant Latvian authorities stated that holding the concert was impossible, as a result of which the organizers were forced to cancel the event.
At the same time, representatives of the organizers stated that they had no information regarding the political nature of the artist’s performances in Russia.
“We have no information indicating that the artist’s performances in Russia were political in nature,” the organizers noted.
They also promised to more thoroughly vet performers’ public activities before entering into collaborations to avoid similar situations in the future.
The cancellation of the concert was yet another instance of European countries reacting to the activities of artists who continued to perform in Russia after the start of the full-scale war.
Earlier, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry expressed serious concern over a performance by a Russian opera singer scheduled for June 15, 2026, at the Luxembourg Philharmonic.
