In Latvia, nearly 31,700 Ukrainians have been granted temporary protection
As of June 30, 2026, 31,690 people who had left Ukraine were receiving temporary protection in Latvia. This is slightly more than in Estonia, where there were 30,405 such people, but significantly fewer than in Lithuania—50,230, according to LSM English, citing Eurostat data.
In total, 4.41 million citizens of non-EU countries who had left Ukraine were granted temporary protection in European Union countries as of that date. Compared to the end of May, their number increased by 24,380 people, or 0.6%.
The largest numbers of temporary protection recipients were in Germany—1,286,230 people, or 29.2% of the total in the EU—Poland—961,170 people (21.8%), and the Czech Republic—390,810 people (8.9%). In 24 of the 27 EU countries, the number of people under temporary protection increased compared to the end of May.

The largest absolute increase was recorded in Italy—by 4,115 people, the Czech Republic—by 3,835, and Germany—by 2,960. A decrease in the number of people granted temporary protection was recorded in Poland, Belgium, and Ireland. The highest rate of temporary protection recipients per 1,000 population was in the Czech Republic—35.8, Slovakia—27.2, and Cyprus—26.8; the EU average was 9.8.
Ukrainian citizens accounted for over 98.5% of all recipients of temporary protection in the EU. Adult women made up 43.4%, adult men 27%, and minors 29.6%. On June 13, 2025, the European Council extended temporary protection for this category of persons until March 4, 2027.
