Latvia recorded its warmest March on record
The average air temperature in the country last month was 4.2 degrees above normal, reaching +4.4°C.
This was reported by LVĢMC, citing meteorological monitoring data from April 6, 2026. March of this year tied with 2007 for the warmest on record, setting a total of 123 daily records, five of which were all-time highs for the entire territory of Latvia.
The month’s highest temperature of +17.9°C was recorded on March 29 in Daugavpils, where the month’s lowest temperature—minus 8.4°C—had been observed earlier, on March 8. In addition to the unseasonably warm weather, March was the fourth driest on record since 1924: precipitation amounted to only 17% of the norm. Forecasters note that consistently high temperatures throughout the entire month are a rare occurrence for this time of year.
Meanwhile, severe weather is raging in western Ukraine—regions have been hit by thunderstorms with hail and strong winds, which have already caused significant damage and power outages.
