Thousands of homes in Lithuania have lost power due to three tornadoes

On the evening of June 5, a severe storm swept through Lithuania, accompanied by heavy rain, thunderstorms, hail, and gusty winds. According to preliminary data from meteorologists, at least three tornadoes may have formed during the storm.

According to meteorologists, footage from Kaunas, the Ukmergė district, and the town of Kazlų Rūda shows the formation of powerful atmospheric vortices, which local residents captured on video from various locations.

The storm was accompanied by brief but very intense rainfall, thunderstorms, and wind gusts of up to 15–16 meters per second. Hail also fell in some areas.

According to meteorologists, precipitation in some areas exceeded 15 millimeters over 12 hours, causing localized flooding and complicating road conditions.

Kaunas suffered the most damage, where strong winds damaged infrastructure and tore the roof off one of the buildings.

In addition, in various parts of the city and surrounding areas, the storm knocked down trees, blocking traffic and posing a danger to residents.

Due to the storm, approximately 8,000 customers of the energy company ESO were temporarily left without power.

Rescue workers and emergency services quickly addressed the aftermath of the storm. According to the fire and rescue service, at least 16 calls were made to remove fallen trees and clear roads.

Meteorologists note that after the main storm front passed, weather conditions in Lithuania remained severe throughout the night.

Rain, thunderstorms, and strong gusts of wind continued in many regions of the country, and experts are still analyzing the collected data to confirm the occurrence of tornadoes.

Currently, emergency services are working to address the aftermath of the storm and restore power in the affected areas.

This was reported by the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service, according to LRT.

As a reminder, in Rome on Wednesday, June 3, a sudden tornado and heavy downpours brought part of the city to a standstill, toppled trees, and caused widespread flooding, effectively paralyzing traffic in several districts. The storm affected several districts at once and turned the streets into rivers of water.
